I just LOVE community outreach!!!!

MY BEAUTIFUL, FABULOUS, ONCE-FERAL FRIEND, MR. MURRAY!!!

Hello, Patch Pet Lovers!

This weekend was a little different than my usual participation at Pet Valu's events… and it was soooooo much more fun!!!

Find out what's happening in Cinnaminsonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

The Animal Adoption Center was there on Saturday, with two of the cuddliest, cutest kitties, and an adorable doggie who loved to give kisses… and everyone had fun celebrating Cinnaminson Pet Valu’s 1st year Anniversary.

Because of the rain, instead of the usual… setting up my bright-colored sign and having a table with lots of handouts… outside, I walked around the store, talked with customers, and answered their questions… inside.

One woman shared a very sad story of her two birds' tragic death during the holiday…

I remind every bird family to keep all beloved feathered-friends out of and far away from the kitchen!!!  And absolutely never use Teflon-coated cookware, as Teflon is extremely toxic to birds, as are other gases and fumes when cooking, to which dog, cats, and humans are not as sensitive.

A doggie dad was giving his fur child a bath (the kindest, most patient dad)… his question was:

How often should he brush his dog's teeth…

Every day!  Dry kibble, chew toys, and bones do not replace brushing -- okay, how about everyone tries for 3 x per week.  And that applies for cats and dogs.  : )

Most importantly, only use pet-specific toothpaste; fluoride and Xylitol, common ingredients in human toothpastes, are highly toxic to pets!  I do not advise using baking soda, because ingesting too much can cause nausea and stomach upset, and whatever is used to brush your pet's teeth is going to be swallowed.

Another question posed:  Is it okay to give cats dairy products?  Kitty shares this mom's yogurt…

Most dogs and cats cannot digest lactose, a sugar in milk, just as many humans are lactose intolerant.  I asked if kitty was having any diarrhea or an upset tummy, but my main concern was if the yogurt was sugar-free, as Xylitol, an artificial sweetener (but can be extracted from natural sources) is used in many products, and is extremely toxic to dogs, cats, and ferrets.  It is found in gum, toothpaste, beverages, vitamins, candies, etc.

Many dogs left with a special treat or toy, and some smelling fresh and looking very pretty, as they got a bath and a blow dry.

What an enjoyable afternoon… doing what I love most:  Talking with pet parents and meeting some of their furry babies!!!

Towards the end of the day, much to my surprise, a wonderful and personal pet parent of mine stopped by to say hello… SIDNEY & MURRAY’S DAD!!!  Now, if his beautiful kitty boys were hiding in his pockets… my day would have ended just puuurrrrfectly!!!

Watch for exciting feedback from Sunday's events!  : )

Helping to keep beloved furry babies healthy and safe... and pet parents informed!
