If you have cats, there should be no lilies in or around your home - at Easter or any other time of the year.

Hello, Patch Pet Lovers!

This may be a redundant post for some of you, but I know it's going to be the first time this life-saving information reaches others to read!   If you have a kitty, please do not buy Lilies… and if you're purchasing flowers as a gift for someone who has a cat… find an alternate safe flower!!!

Thank you, Dr. Jason Nicholas, for the information below!

If you have cats, there should be no lilies in or around your home - at Easter or any other time of the year.

Lilies are without doubt one of the most poisonous flowers and plants you can have around cats, yet too few cat owners are aware of this. I want you to be aware of it and I would like to ask for your help to make sure that awareness of this vitally important topic reaches far and wide.

The lilies I'm talking about are the "true lilies" - the Easter lilies, the Stargazers, the Rubrums, etc. And all it takes to cause a problem is the nibble of a petal or two, or even just the grooming of the pollen off their coat or the drinking of the vase water the flowers are sitting in. The toxin is in every part of these flowers, including the pollen - and it's water soluble too, so it leaches out into the vase water even.

Regardless of how "out of reach" you think these flowers are from your cats, your cats aren't truly safe if these flowers are anywhere in or around your house. Don't forget petals dry up and fall down, pollen carries on the breeze, and vases tip over.
