Hello, Patch Pet Lovers!

STICKS…  A DANGEROUS OBJECT -- NOT A TOY!!!!

By Preventive Vet:

Many dog owners are under the impression that sticks make great chew and fetch toys for their dogs. Sadly though, these ubiquitous, (seemingly) free, and impromptu toys can - and often do - cause great injury and pain to dogs. They sometimes even cause fatalities.

Here's just a sample of the types of injuries that sticks commonly cause:
  • Splinters in a dog's tongue and/or gums
  • Punctures of the roof of a dog's mouth, or even their throat
  • Impalement in a dog's eye
  • Penetration of a dog's chest, with resulting damage to their heart and/or lungs
You can learn about some safer alternatives to sticks, what to do if your dog runs onto a stick, and other dangers associated with playing with this dangerous toy, in this article:

Fetch This! Why You Shouldn’t Let Your Dog Chase or Chew sticks
