Howard F. Bateman Sr., Founding Member of St. Charles, Dies at 83

Services will be held Monday, June 18.

Howard F. Bateman Sr. passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 10, 2012, while walking to 9:30 Mass at St Charles Borromeo Church near his home in Cinnaminson, NJ.

Born in Philadelphia, Howard was 83 years old. A resident of Cinnaminson since 1957, Howard also resided at his summer home in Stone Harbor, NJ.

Howard proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Drexel University where he received his degree in Engineering. After graduation, Howard was employed by Westinghouse Electric Company for 3 years. In 1958, he joined his brother Ed in operating Bateman Brothers Lumber Company, a wholesale lumber company with facilities in Philadelphia, PA, New Britain, PA and later Woodbury, NJ. Howard retired from active leadership of Bateman Brothers in 1994, but remained as a consultant and served on the Board of Directors. After retirement Howard continued as an active member of Riverton Country Club, Avalon Golf Club and Stone Harbor Yacht Club.

Howard was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Agnes Munley Bateman. Together, Howard and Agnes were founding members of in Cinnaminson. Howard is survived by his loving children Howard F. Jr. and his wife Betsy of Longport, NJ, Karen Voystock and her husband Joseph, of Lancaster, PA, Megan Reardon and her husband Mark, of Wilmington, DE, Amy Janoch and her husband Bill of Peterborough, NH and Michael Bateman and his wife Crista, of Charlotte, NC. Howard was the brother of Edward Bateman, the late George W. Bateman, III and the late John R. Bateman. Howard is survived by 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Howard's Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church Branch Pike and Pomona Road, in Cinnaminson, NJ. Visitation with Howard’s family will begin at 10 a.m. at the Church.
