To the editor:
I've watched the Children's 4th of July parade in Riverton for many years now. On Wednesday, I saw this year's version and realized the decline in the entertainment value has reached its zenith.
Forty-seven fire trucks spewed diesel fumes and drowned out the bands with their sirens and horns.
Look, I am appreciative of the job our volunteer firefighters do, and believe they deserve all the accolades they get but, come on. A dozen or so trucks should be sufficient to make their point.
By the way, four or five carloads of local politicians is also not necessary. No entertainment there—just more campaigning. Enough already.
You want to meet the people? Get out of the convertibles and walk among the people. We need more bands and especially kids on decorated bicycles! Too much tail-wagging the dog inasmuch as we the people pay for these parades.
