You Said It: Dog Park in Cinnaminson

'You Said It' is a daily segment featuring opinions from Cinnaminson residents and visitors on current issues facing our township.

A few Cinnaminson residents are pursuing the idea of opening a dog park in Cinnaminson, possibly at Memorial Park. A kickoff meeting for a steering committee was already held and another meeting will be scheduled for those interested in joining the efforts soon.

The project would be the first of its kind in Cinnaminson.

Read about it .

We asked some residents: Would you like to see a dog park in Cinnaminson?

You Said It is a new video feature on Patch, showing you the names and faces of our residents and township visitors and what they think about certain topics. Check back each afternoon for a new video. A new topic will be unveiled each week. Leave your comments here!

I am all for it, and would assist in donating some funds to the cause.

Yes, let's give dogs a place all their own. It sickens me when dogs void on the grass of our homes, parks and school lawns and then people walk and lay on that very same grass. Dogs need a place to play with some freedom. Their own place will do just that!

So does the town get sued if a dog attacks another dog, or even worse, a person?
Kimberly Kelly April 26, 2011 at 09:01 PM
Ross - no, the Township would not be liable for an injury in the dog park and could not be sued. The owner of the aggressive dog could be sued, however, if that dog's actions result in injury to another person or dog.

Just make sure it has clean up stations with free bags cause people are lazy. We have them in our development in DELRAN and at the place we vacation at the NJ shore and it really helps a lot. Not sure the cost but I don't want to see what it will look like in a month if they don't them provided. Other than that I think a dog park is a great idea!

Hey Paul! Yes, "clean-up stations" with bags and waste receptacles would be at the top of our priority list for the dog park. Keeping it clean is very important!

I think a Dog Park would be great for the Township. But I don't think Memorial Park is the right place. It seems crowded with a lot of activities. Cinnaminson has a number of smaller parks that might work better.

Memorial has the benefit of being large and not directly located next to people's homes. Any of the other parks I imagine would create a barking nuisance for the homeowners near by.

The smaller parks need the benefit of this type of increased activity.

There's a great smaller park right off Chestnut Hill. I would LOVE the idea of a place nearby for my dog to socialize.

I do not understand why the taxpayers need to foot the price of a dog park. I respect my neighbors so my dog uses my fenced in backyard for her business. Then I clean up my yard after my pooch. So why can't the other dog owners in this town use their own yards? Well of course they are lazy. If the lazy Cinnaminson dog owners don't use their own yards, then at the very least, the township should raise the price of dog tags to pay for policing after the irresponsible dog owners. It is a public health nuisance. And the owners of dogs caught dropping waste in the neighborhood should face large fines and their dog taken away. The lazy people who allow their dogs to do their stuff around the neighborhood need to have that same stuff dumped on their front door. They also do not deserve to own dogs. The idea that Cinnaminson should turn over part of our parks for dumping dog waste is ridiculous. Use your own yards.
