Accused BurlCo Murderer Indicted: Prosecutor

A Willingboro man who allegedly led authorities on a two-week manhunt earlier this year has been indicted on charges of beating a gas station attendant to death during a February robbery, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities said Zedrick T. Johnson, 35, entered the convenience store at the Lukoil station at Route 130 and Charleston Road, in Willingboro, on Feb. 11 and murdered attendant Bal Krishna Karki, then left with money from the cash register.

Johnson was indicted by a grand jury on one count of murder (first degree), one count of felony murder (first degree) and one count of robbery (first degree). The indictment was returned on Oct. 29.

Johnson has been in prison since Feb. 22, when authorities located him following a 12-day manhunt in a house on the 100 block of North 23rd Street in Camden, according to the prosecutor. He remains in jail on $1 million bail.

He was also indicted for robbery (first degree) for allegedly holding up the Sunny Food Mart on Vansciver Parkway in Willingboro the day after Karki’s murder, the prosecutor said. Johnson allegedly entered the convenience store on Feb. 12, put his hand in his pocket as if he had a gun, pointed it at the cashier and demanded money, then fled in the victim’s car.

Authorities claimed Johnson also held up National Fuel in Delran at knifepoint on Feb. 20. He allegedly punched the attendant in the face before taking the money and fleeing.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, Delran Police Department, Willingboro Police Department and the New Jersey State Police all assisted in the investigation.
