Forest Fire Burns About 800 Acres in Wharton State Forest Sunday

The fire reported on Sunday was in Burlington County, but could be seen in Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic and Cape May counties.

Officials reported a forest fire in Wharton State Forest destroyed about 800 acres of land on Sunday, the Courier Post reports.

The fire on Sunday is in the same area in which another fire destroyed about 200 acres on Friday, according to the report. Each fire was in what is described as a "very, very remote" location, and was not a threat to any property. It began Sunday morning and had destroyed 800 acres late Sunday night, when it was about 30 percent contained, according to the report.

Campers at Goshen Park Campgrounds were told to evacuate, and Jackson and Atsion roads were closed in Camden County, according to the report.

Smoke was seen at Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees and Atco Raceway, according to the report.

According to multiple Facebook posts, the smoke and ash is reportedly blowing southeast into Atlantic and Cape May counties.
