Authorities: CA Man Shipped Marijuana Cross-Country to Delran

Thomas Arnold of Santa Barbara allegedly sent a big shipment of pot to South Jersey.

Authorities weeded out a huge shipment of "high-grade" marijuana allegedly sent by a California man to a public-storage facility in Delran.

Thomas Arnold, 55, of the 100 block of East De La Guerra Street, Santa Barbara, CA, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday.

Arnold made arrangements to have the marijuana shipped in a container to the Delran facility, and he was arrested May 16 after the container arrived, authorities said. The container held 15 large boxes of marijuana weighing a total of about 250 pounds. The marijuana has a street value of $1 million, authorities said.

Arnold was held in the Burlington County Jail on $250,000 cash bail. His case will be presented to a state grand jury in Burlington County for possible indictment.

The investigation was conducted by detectives from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office Gang, Gun and Narcotics Task Force, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey State Police and the Delran Police Department.

The prosecutor's office declined to release additional details about the case Tuesday afternoon.

I went to High School with Tom, He is the nicest guy you would ever want to meet. And still is...Guys like Tom should not be in Jail..They should figure out something else for him...not jail time.

how about prison?? :) A million dollars worth of drugs smuggled and that's what he deserves.
Hemostatboy May 23, 2012 at 01:12 PM
I went to HS with Tom also. The prohibition on herb needs to go away. Its just as bad a drain on the gov. as alcohol prohibition was. NORMAL.
Nancy VanTwistern May 23, 2012 at 02:39 PM
What?...think of the results of this stuff being 'sniffed' by some young people! Accidents, over douses, dangerous behavior.........etc. etc. etc. people change and 'nice guys' are no exception.
Cinna05 May 23, 2012 at 03:33 PM
Nancy - please research how many "over douses" have occured from use of marijuana. It is less dangerous than alcohol. This is not even coming from someone who uses marijuana...
Luke Murry May 23, 2012 at 03:37 PM
Nancy, their has not been a single death caused by ingesting cannabis as long as it's been on the planet. It is litteraly impossible to overdose on weed. Marijuana is also not sniffed. It can be made into tea, vaporized, baked into cookies or cooked into food, and of course, smoked like tobacco. Marijuana doesn't cause 'dangerous behavior' unless giggling scares you or you fear for the safety of your snack foods. Alcohol prohibition was a ridiculous failure. Human beings own their own bodies, and have a right to decide what they ingest. We are spending billions of dollars locking up 'criminals' who aren't actually hurting anyone, and we, the taxpayers, are footing the bill
Luke Murry May 23, 2012 at 03:41 PM
'reefer madness' and the pot propaganda supported by our government has somehow stuck in the public mind since the thirties. We have the internet now though. Their is simply no excuse for ignorance when it comes to cannabis. Millions of peoples lives and livelihoods are being ruined by this war on drugs. Over half of adult Americans support marijuana legalization. Over seventy percent support its medical use. It's time to stop locking up and killing our fellow citizens over a plant that grows in the ground.

I'm with Hemostat boy.....it's time. And guys I don't think Tom is going to make the next reunion!....unfortunately!.....

How do you sniff marijuana Nancy? If you figure that out llet me know, I want to give it a try
Ric May 23, 2012 at 10:44 PM
Unless Nancy is in her eighties, do not believe her grossly overstated moral outrage. She has smoked weed in her day. I was part of CHS class of '70, and out of the 100 of us who went to D.C., 12 (who became known as the dirty dozen) got caught with the wacky weed. If the school was better at searching, they probably could have had a 100% confiscation rate. I have not touched weed in almost thirty anything (except for 2 beers a year). Other than causing terminal munchies, weed is less harmless than alcohol. Heck, looking at our governor, I’d say he has never recovered from his bout with the munchies ;-)

The real crime is that marijuana isn't sold commercially and taxed. Guys like this don't belong in prison. Prison is just being used as a place for "time out" for offenders like this. I want murderers and people not fit for society in there, not a guy like this. I would rather have cheaper taxes from taxing commercially sold marijuana than higher taxes from footing the bill for a stay in prison for guys like this.

Does anyone know if they drug test for elected officials?
KCinCA May 24, 2012 at 06:41 PM
Unless pot sells for twice as much in NJ, the value of 250lbs is not even close to $1 million. I suppose it makes a better headline, and gives the authorities an opportunity to ramble on about the evils of marijuana. It should be legalized, then we would be calling Tom a "job creator" instead of a drug dealer...lol

Official police report often make up $ amounts for bigger headlines.

yes...I agree...I went to high school with him too
familyman May 26, 2012 at 06:44 AM
maybe you people should think about this. maybe this is all this guy got caught for. maybe he deals other drugs also. stuff that our kids might be out there experimenting with. possibly dying from. how would you feel if your child died from the drugs this guy put on the streets. if he has a family and kids imagine the life of lies you would have to lead to do this. if he has kids how do you think they feel right now. i dont care how nice somebody is in high school. you do stuff like this that might effect my family. you can rot
FbS May 26, 2012 at 11:16 AM
exactly.. nice guy in high school > drug dealer does not apply.. ever
geo May 26, 2012 at 08:13 PM
It is still illegal. You may even think its ok to smoke and drive, or even go to work under the influence. To his friends that think its ok, well would you want your kids buying from him, and or facing prosecution due to possession. What if your home or your vehicle is damaged or burglarized to buy his "product" ? To bad for Tom, he won't get that big payout he so eagerly anticipated, great for the general pubic Laws are laws, I and many others have learned. BTW, if he's selling one thing illegally, what else is "nice guy" doing for to promote a better society ?
Truth Seeker May 26, 2012 at 09:53 PM
Nice guy? There is nothing nice about Tom Arnold, unless there is something he wants from you. Charming, yes, like a snake in the grass. His greedy venture for money and grandeur started many years ago. His drug of choice is actually cocaine. Well, I guess that comes from a plant too. All you have to do is look at his face to see what a lifetime of lies and darkness will do to a person. He leaves a trail of hurt and destruction in his path. When someone dances with greed what would he be willing to do to protect it? All in the name of Tom Arnold who thought he was untouchable, even god like. I guarantee there are many people close and far away hurting and destroyed by this egocentric man. Even dead? How far does someone go to protect such a narcissistic reality? I suppose only he knows and at the end of the day he only has himself to blame.

$1 million for 250lbs = $31.25 per 1/8 ounce. You're saying it sells for 15 bucks an eighth in CA? I don't think so.
