Camden Man Murdered Trenton Cabbie: Police

Authorities say Carey L. Coleman shot the cab driver in the head in Burlington City last month.

A 22-year-old Camden man was arrested Monday for fatally shooting a cab driver in Burlington City last month.

According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Carey L. Coleman, of South 9th Street, Camden, climbed into the cab around 1 a.m. June 16 at the Trenton train station, based on surveillance footage.

A short time later, Burlington City Police got a report that a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Route 130 North and York Street. Officers who responded found the driver, Larry Hamilton, 47, of Trenton, dead inside the vehicle, with a single gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

Coleman was arrested Monday without incident at a relative’s house in Woodbury by detectives from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and members of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive Unit. He is charged with one count of murder. Bail was set at $500,000.

The investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Burlington City Police Department.
