Cinnaminson Woman Steals Fees to Pay for Gas, Cell Phone, Police Say

A Cinnaminson woman who worked in the Delanco Township construction office allegedly lined her pockets with permit and rental fees over a two-month period.

Carla Ann Sarlo, 44, of South Warrington Avenue, gave herself up to authorities on Friday on suspicion of stealing more than $1,200 in fees from May 1, 2011 to June 30, 2011, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and Delanco Township Police Chief George Sacalis.

Authorities say Sarlo used her position to collect cash from eight people paying required fees. She was supposed to deposit the money into a township bank account, but instead used it to pay for gas, food and her cell phone bill.

Police say Sarlo would enter the fees into a log, but later void the transaction to cover her tracks.

After surrendering herself on June 8, Sarlo was charged with one count of theft, third degree. Bail was set at $5,000 and she was released on her own recognizance. The case is headed to a Burlington County grand jury for indictment.

Sarlo had worked for Delanco Township for eight years and she was fired in August 2011. A county prosecutor’s office spokesman said she has made restitution totally $941.
