Cinnaminson Man Faces Trial on Sexual Assault Charges

More than a year later, Daniel J. Smith will go to trial for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy.

Daniel J. Smith, the 39-year-old Cinnaminson man who is currently serving time on drug charges, will go to trial in May on , according to Phillyburbs.com.

According to the news outlet, Smith formally rejected the state's plea offer in Superior Court Monday, saying he wanted a jury trial.

The Lenola Road resident was arrested in January 2011 after said he allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy at on Dec. 1, 2010. Police said Smith and the juvenile agreed to meet a second time—Jan. 7, 2011—but instead, local police and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office took him into custody.

In March of last year, Smith was  for a separate drug charge. Smith was one of 12 warehouse workers growing marijuana in Philadelphia.

According to Phillyburbs.com, Smith rejected the state’s offer of five years in prison in exchange for a guilty plea.

Smith would also have to register as a sex offender under New Jersey’s Megan’s Law, according to the article. 

Smith could face as many as 10 years in prison. He would serve more if convicted of all the charges.
