Copper Thief on the Run After Being Caught in Act, Police Say

Police are on the trail of a former Cinnaminson man who was allegedly caught walking out of a vacant home with a bundle of copper pipe Tuesday morning.

A landlord’s son arrived at an unoccupied home they own on the 600 block of Princeton Avenue in Maple Shade shortly before 8:30 a.m. and found an unknown pickup truck in the driveway, according to Maple Shade Police. While calling his father to ask about the truck, a man exited the front door with a container full of copper pipes.

The thief threw the copper pipes in the back of his truck and sped across the lawn onto Route 73 to escape, police said.

Using a description of the thief and his truck, police quickly located where he had just sold the copper in Camden and, thanks to accurate eyewitness accounts, issued an arrest for Joseph Bordo Jr., 46. Police said Bordo’s current address is unknown, but he formerly lived in Maple Shade and Cinnaminson.

Bordo has been charged with burglary, criminal mischief and theft. Bail has been set at $20,000.

Maple Shade Police warn citizens not to attempt to take Bordo into custody themselves. Anyone who can can provide the location of Bordo, or his truck, should call 856-234-8300 and reference case 2013-6334.
