County Man Indicted on Attempted Murder, Weapons Charges

The Mt. Holly man allegedly shot a man in the head last May.

A Mount Holly man has been indicted on attempted murder charges for shooting another man in May on a Mount Holly street, according to a report from the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. 

Joshua E. Vandunk, 23, of 145 Hickory St., Mount Holly, was indicted on one count of criminal attempt murder (first degree), one count of aggravated assault (second degree), one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (second degree), and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon (second degree).

The investigation revealed that on May 5 of this year, at approximately 11 p.m., Vandunk and Donell Whitley, 28, of Mount Holly, were in the 100 block of Hickory Street when Vandunk allegedly shot Whitley one time in the head following an argument. Vandunk was arrested the next day.

The investigation was conducted by the Mount Holly Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office with assistance from the Burlington Township Police Department, Eastampton Township Police Department, Lumberton Township Police Department, Mount Holly Township Fire Department, New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit, Springfield Township Police Department and theWestampton Township Police Department.

An arraignment will be scheduled soon in Superior Court in Burlington County. Vandunk is in the Burlington County Jail on $550,000 bail.
