Fake Name Backfires on Man in Country Illegally

The Department of Homeland Security sought Javier Castneda for his immigration status.

If you’re going to give police an alias, it always pays to make sure that person isn’t wanted.

Javier Castneda, 33, didn’t, say, and that move will likely get him deported—for a second time.

Cinnaminson Police report stopping Castneda, of Federal Street, Camden, on July 20 at 2:17 p.m. for motor vehicle violations. The suspect gave officers a fake name, but that person was wanted in Los Angeles by the sheriff’s department, so Cinnaminson Police took Castneda into custody.

Fingerprints revealed the fabrication, but also showed that the Department of Homeland Security wanted Castneda for re-entering the country illegally after he was deported in 2004.

He also had two warrants for his arrest from Burlington and Camden counties.

Castneda was held at the Burlington County Jail on a U.S. Customs and Immigration detainer.
