The Cinnaminson Fire Department reminds residents not to use candles for light if the electric goes out. Flashlights or battery-operated lighting is much safer, Chief Bill Kramer said.

In addition, if you have a gasoline- or diesel-powered generator, do not use it inside any portion of a building, including garages or basements. Generators create large amounts of odorless and colorless carbon monoxide. If using a generator, only tie it into your home's electrical system if done so by a licensed electrician.
