Former VP of Beverly Social Club Indicted for Stealing Funds

The Delanco man was arrested Tuesday in Cape May.

A Delanco man was indicted by a Burlington County grand jury for stealing nearly $10,000 in funds from a Beverly City social club while serving as the organization’s vice president, Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi announced Thursday. 

Joseph Keating, 52, of 405 Delview Lane, Delanco, was indicted on one count of third degree theft by deception and one count of third degree misapplication of entrusted property.

Indictments are formal charges, not convictions.

Keating was arrested Tuesday in Cape May on a bench warrant. He was lodged in Burlington County Jail without bail pending a first appearance in Superior Court in Burlington County today.

In his capacity as vice president of the Beverly Athletic Club, Keating was responsible for making weekly deposits of cash and checks into the club’s bank account. The investigation revealed that between May 2009 and December 2009, Keating withheld $9,598 from the deposits and kept it for personal use.

The theft was discovered when checks the Club had written to cover expenses were returned due to insufficient funds in its bank account.

The investigation was conducted by the Beverly City Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
