Local Man Sentenced in Federal Drug Case

The Lenola Road man who was charged with sexual assault of a minor in January was sentenced on a separate drug charge stemming from December.

Daniel J. Smith, the Lenola Road man with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in January, has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for a separate drug charge, according to officials at the United States District Court Eastern District of Pennsylvania. 

Smith, 39, was one of 12 workers at a warehouse used to grow marijuana on American Street in Philadelphia. The warehouse was owned by Richard K. Creamer, 38, of Philadelphia. 

Creamer's sentencing has been scheduled for late May.

Smith, and 11 others, plead guilty in December to a charge of conspiracy to manufacture 1,000 or more marijuana plants with intent to distribute.

Smith was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Joel H. Slomsky Tuesday afternoon, according to Chris Murphy Casper, Slomsky's secretary.

He received 18 months in federal prison and is required to participate in the prison work program, said Casper. 

According to Joel Bewley, spokesman for the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, Smith's sexual assault charge in Cinnaminson is still pending presentment to a Burlington County grand jury. Smith was arrested in early January and charged with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy at Wood Park. 

In that case, Smith is charged with two counts of sexual assault in the second degree, one count of attempted sexual assault in the second degree and one count of endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree.
