Palmyra Police Blotter

There's been a recent rash of bike thefts, police said.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Palmyra Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction. The information is from incidents from July 8 to July 15.

July 8, 7:57 a.m.

Palmyra Police were dispatched to a Lincoln Avenue home for a burglary and theft report.

Upon arrival, the victim there told police that his $2,000 Jamis bicycle was stolen from his detached garage, police said. The victim did not know the exact date of the theft.

Police are asking residents to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods; there have been several bike thefts in recent weeks.

July 8, 11:47 p.m.

Police were dispatched after a 911 call came in regarding a dispute on Maple Avenue in Palmyra.

Antonio Benton, 38, had called in the disturbance, but identified himself as Antonio Santiago, police said. Benton said there was no problem and invited police into the apartment.

There, police asked Benton to step outside while they spoke to a female at the apartment. In plain view, police said, was narcotic contraband and a hypodermic needle that had recently been used.

Police inspected Benton and discovered he had been using the narcotics. He was taken into custody and charged with possession of narcotics, possession of a hypodermic needle and wrongfully dialing 911.

Benton was transported to Burlington County Jail where his bail was set at $15,000. 

July 9, 3:46 p.m.

A Palmyra police officer spotted Joseph D'Agostino, 40, of Delanco, pushing two bicycles on Vansant Drive and stopped him because of recent bike thefts, police said.

Moments after stopping him, police were advised of a call for a theft of two bicycles. The description matched the bikes being pushed by D'Agostino.  

He was taken into custody and subsequently admitted to stealing the bikes off of a porch at a residence on Cinnaminson Avenue. He was charged with burglary and theft and bail was set at $20,000.

D'Agostino was transported to Burlington County Jail.
