Police: Cinnaminson Man Found With Drug Paraphernalia

Marijuana was smelled coming from the car.

A Cinnaminson man was found with drug paraphernalia near the Palmyra Harbour clubhouse, Palmyra police said.

Slade Barrett, 18, was charged with drug paraphernalia possession.

Palmyra police observed a vehicle parked on private property after business hours. After obtaining consent, the vehicle was searched after a strong odor of burnt marijuana was smelled.

Police found several items of drug paraphernalia.

Barrett was processed and released pending court.

I missed the part where Slade did anything to hurt anyone. He may have been breaking the law, but in this case the law is grossly unjust. No victim, No crime. Parents, consider that well over half of all teenagers and young adults have used Cannabis. Do you think it's right that if they have the misfortune to be caught by the police they face criminal penalties? Over a substance that isn't even harmful? Would you want your kid to be treated like a criminal over something the President of the United States openly admits to having smoked and enjoyed? All types of people like our greatest gold medal winner(Michael Phelps), incredibly successful entrepreneurs (Richard Branson), and inspiring scientists (Carl Sagan) have used and enjoyed Cannabis. Slade now has to deal with ridiculous court rituals, and most likely a hefty fine if he wants to stay out of a cage. Over a plant that has been proven to have many medicinal benefits and very few negative side effects (munchies?) I know Slade, and he's a good guy. No one deserves to be treated like a criminal over cannabis use.

Luke, I smoke, and have for a long time. You can't tell me it does not impair you in driving. I am not comparing it to drinking, but getting high absolutely affects your driving ability. So if he is there getting high and then later driving, it's an issue

Plus, having the name slade didn't help him.

Wow Cheech & Chong debating marijuana impairment

Slade's actions are selfish. He parked on someone else's property, got high out in public and it is a pretty good assumption that he intended to drive his car afterwards, endangering himself and others. Pot is NOT the central issue in this story. This story never gets written if he drove home to smoke his pot. It is a good thing that the police stopped him before he drove off and killed himself or someone else. Maybe this was the first time that he got high while out driving a car. Maybe this was the 100th time that he did it. Let's hope that getting arrested this time will stop him from making the same stupid decision in the future. Slade was very lucky that he was released rather than being dropped off at the county jail in Mt Holly There he would have been strip searched, handed an orange jump suit to wear and a 3" thick mattress with blood stained sheets. He would sign for a prisoner's book of rights that is never given out. He would have been put in a tiny two man cell that already had two very large prisoners in the bunks. The jail is overcrowded and short on guards so he may spend up to 24 hours a day in that cell in the only remaining space, laying on a concrete floor. His cell mates will just push him against the wall when they need to make room to use the toilet. Slade might find it difficult to go from having no regard for anyone else to a jail environment where no one has any regard for him.

Great comment Chris, really furthering the discussion! T Rovson, Cannabis can definitely impair driving abilities, and I'm not advocating driving while stoned. Slade wasn't pulled over while operating his vehicle. His car was parked. If he intended to drive that may have been unwise, but in this case he wasn't driving.

I know he wasn't driving, but the same would have happened to someone who was drunk in his position.

UK's Institute of Advanced Motorists said that texting was more dangerous then drinking and driving or being high and driving. Looks like we should round up every teenage girl right?

De durp a durp durpity de durpy durp, a durp durp de durp durpity. Durp durpity de durp durpy durp, de durpity durpy dum. My point here is.... Durp. Slade is a great man, and a pretty sick name(jealousy?), and Luke's right. Legalize don't criticize, because in the long run both sides to the argument against marijuana are only hearing durp out of the others mouth. To all parents, hate to break it to you but your kids are probably out doing nearly the same thing. If its not marijuana, it's drinking, and now even more commonly prescription pills. Regardless of the law, this type of recreation is the most common and most available to do and will only rise in percentage of who will partake in years to come. Idle hands are the devils playground. And it's not like there's anything for kids to do besides loiter and wait for trouble at parks. The problems in your hands Cinnaminson, but so is the solution. Figure it out.

How can they arrest people for paraphemalia, it's sold legally , and no pot was found, just a smell , give me a brake. Maybe we do have to many cops if this is what they have time to waste doing. Lets mess this kids life up cause we dont have any real crime to stop. Maybe our police men should do a tour in camden.
Whole 9 Yards December 28, 2012 at 03:32 PM
@ Den, you do know this happened in Palmyra, right? With Palmyra Officers.
