Sex Offender Daniel Smith Sentenced

He'll serve time in state prison, as well as have to register as a sex offender, for assaulting a teenage boy in Wood Park two years ago.

A Cinnaminson man was sentenced to seven years in state prison for sexually assaulting a teenage boy in Wood Park more than two years ago.

Daniel Smith, of Lenola Road, was sentenced in Superior Court Wednesday, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. Smith will serve seven years for sexual assault, in accordance with a plea agreement he negotiated in November 2012. Smith had been free on bail pending the sentencing.

He will also be on parole supervision for the rest of his life and be required to register as a sex offender upon his release, according to the Burlington County Times.

Smith was arrested in January 2011 after he sexually assaulted the then 14-year-old boy at Wood Park on Dec. 1, 2010. Smith said he contacted the boy online, which led to the sexual encounter. The two had agreed to meet a second time—Jan. 7, 2011—but instead, local police and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office took him into custody.

In January 2011, Smith was also one of 12 people who pleaded guilty after a federal jury in Philadelphia convicted Richard K. Creamer of conspiracy to manufacture 1,000 or more marijuana plants and maintaining a place for manufacture of controlled substances.

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Smith worked at the city warehouse where, monthly, up to 20 pounds of high-grade marijuana sold for about $5,000 per pound.

Smith served time for those drug charges.
