Winter Storm Warning in Effect for Southern New Jersey

Snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected to fall over the region on Sunday into Monday.

Southern New Jersey residents expecting the weather to create a minor inconvenience this weekend are experiencing a little more than they bargained for as snow began to fall throughout the region on Sunday.

The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly has issued a Winter Storm Warning until midnight throughout the region.

That snow is eventually expected to turn to sleet, followed by freezing rain and eventually plain rain as a warm front lifts the cold air late Sunday into Monday.

The transition is expected to take place around midnight. Accumulation is expected to total 5-10 inches of snow or sleet and there is expected to be a trace of ice accumulation.

Visibility is expected to be low, and slippery travel is expected to develop on untreated roadways, bridges and other elevated roadways.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected and strong winds are also possible, making travel very hazardous or impossible.

Travelers are warned to exercise extreme caution while driving during this time.
