Two More Relatives Charged in Sewer Authority Scandal

One of the defendants is the brother-in-law of the former sewerage authority's superintendent.

Two additional suspects have been charged in the (CSA) scandal, a that allegedly netted more than $100,000 in stolen public resources, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and Michael P. King.

And the as one defendant is a former CSA employee and brother-in-law of former superintendent Paul Phillips, who was arrested in February.

The second defendant charged is the brother and son of three others also accused in the scandal.

Scott Mayes, 53, of Dartmouth Drive in Delran, is charged with one count of theft of services. Officials allege that Mayes, a former electrician for the CSA, used a rented mini-excavator at his home and had the agency foot the $480 rental cost.

Mayes was terminated in March, according to Rob O'Connor, a CSA commissioner.

Mayes is Phillips' brother-in-law and the father of with corruption of public resources and conspiracy-corruption of public resources.

According to an NJ.com public salary database, Scott Mayes had been with the CSA since May 1, 2011, and his salary was $36,664.

The second defendant charged is Shawn Lehman, 24, of Nassau Road in Cinnaminson. He's been charged with one count of receiving stolen property. Lehman allegedly received motorcycle parts, including two new tires, as part of a scam that utilized fraudulent invoices to receive personal items that were paid for with CSA funds. 

Two of Lehman's brothers—Joseph B. and Jeffrey—were previously arrested and charged in connection with the scandal. His father Joseph, a non-CSA employee, was also previously charged.

Mayes was released on his own recognizance. Shawn Lehman is free after posting 10 percent of his $5,000 bail. All the other defendants previously arrested are out on bail.

The number of people charged in this scandal is now up to 10.
