Two Camden County Men Charged With Taking Money for False Cause

Curtis Coney Jr. and Lance Reynolds were charged with taking money outside a K-Mart store.

Two Sicklerville men have been charged in connection with the fraudulent collection of money outside K-Mart on Blackwood-Clementon Road, Gloucester Township Police announced.

Curtis Coney Jr., 25, and Lance Reynolds, 20, were charged Tuesday night after they sat outside the K-Mart and collected money from unsuspecting shoppers under the name “Public Schools Athletic League,” police said.

Police officers were notified of their actions, and arrived on the scene at 7:17 Tuesday night. An investigation revealed their cause was fictitious and that they had two clipboards with names and signatures with the amounts they collected.

Coney Jr. was charged with theft by deception and failure to appear warrants. He was remanded to Camden County Corrections Facility in default of bail.

Reynolds was charged with hindering apprehension and theft by deception. He was released on a criminal summons pending court.

This seems to be a new trend . Have seen a couple that shows up where Rte 130 and Black Horse Pike intersect. Same thing "athletics" and in Philly on Island Ave. and this time for some church org. They're slick to. They make sure they throw some money already in jar or bucket to look legit. The way I see it. Yea it's wrong. I know it's bogus but they are friendly, they smile, they say "thank-you, God Bless you "and best of all, they ain't pointing a gun at me. So, you have a good now and "Thank-You and God Bless You also".
