Wawa Coffee Craving Gets 2 Men Arrested: Police

Palmyra Police arrested two men at the convenience store this month, including one man who found himself in cuffs three times in one week.

It took him three tries, but a Camden man finally got himself locked up after causing a series of disturbances at the Palmyra Wawa, police said.

Palmyra Police responded to the Cinnaminson Avenue Wawa on Jan. 5 for a report of a man who had helped himself to three cups of coffee but was refusing to pay. When officers arrived and tried to gather information, the man—Thomas Carrillo, 36—began cursing loudly and causing a scene, police said.

Though Carrillo was warned to calm down, he refused, police said. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, though Wawa chose not to pursue a shoplifting complaint. Carrillo was served with a summons and released pending court.

Four days later, on Jan. 9, Carrillo returned to the store, police said, despite being barred from the store following the earlier incident. Police arrived and placed him under arrest. Carrillo was charged with defiant trespass and again released pending court.

Carrillo returned to Wawa again this past Sunday, asking patrons for a ride, police said. He was again arrested and charged with defiant trespass. However, this time the charge was placed on a warrant, with bail set at $500. Carrillo was unable to post bail and was lodged in Burlington County Jail.

Another man was arrested for stealing coffee from Wawa earlier this month, police said.

According to a report, Nestor Rodriguez, 30, of Pennsauken, had recently been going into the Palmyra Wawa, pouring himself a 12-ounce cup of coffee, and consuming it without paying. When confronted, Rodriguez reportedly laughed in the manager’s face and walked out of the store, police said.

The manager called police on Jan. 2 when he saw Rodriguez enter the store again. As police were speaking with the manager, they observed Rodriguez drinking a cup of coffee he hadn’t paid for, according to the report. Rodriguez was arrested and charged with two counts of shoplifting.

Police also discovered Rodriguez had five outstanding warrants for his arrest out of Beverly, Pennsauken, Camden City and Riverside, which totaled $2,456.50. The shoplifting charges were placed on a warrant, with bail set at $2,500, and he was placed in Burlington County Jail pending court.
