Woman, 90, Smacks Down Would-Be Thief

Rash of burglaries continue in Cinnaminson.

A 90-year-old Cinnaminson woman smacked the hand of an alleged burglar Friday night after the suspect broke the glass of her back door in an attempt to break in, according to police.

The alleged burglar fled.

Cinnaminson—and other surrounding towns—have been dealing with . Last week, Det. Sgt. William Covert said he thinks the burglaries are related.

said the woman, who lives on Forklanding Road, saw a black four-door sedan drive around to the back of her house. The alleged burglar knocked on the door, and when he received no response, went to the car, got a crow bar, and tried to pry open the back door.

When the glass was broken, the suspect put his hand in to unlock the door when the woman smacked his hand. The alleged burglar fled the scene.

Police were unable to locate the suspect who is described as a black male with short hair and a stocky build.

Police are asking residents to be aware of their neighborhoods and report any suspicious vehicles or persons.

Two more burglaries were reported last weekend.

The homeowner of a Kathleen Avenue residence was away for the weekend and called police upon her return when she noticed all her jewelry was missing, police said.

There were no signs of forced entry into her home.

On July 28, between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., a Broadwood Avenue home was broke into, police said, by a cut in the rear screen window, which led to an unlocked window.

Jewelry was taken, but other valuables were not touched, police said.
