Coast Guard Deploying to Qatar for Planned Security Mission

National Guard troops and their families expressed dismay at the continuing violence in Iraq, though, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The New Jersey National Guard Troops from the 1-114th Infantry Battalion who were deployed to Qatar on Wednesday were deployed as part of a planned security mission, the Asbury Park Press reports.

The deployment comes as the United States prepares to deploy 275 troops and additional security forces to Iraq.

Even though the battalion is not being deployed to Iraq, some troops and some families of troops expressed disappointment at the renewed violence in a country they spent time helping during the Iraq War, according to the report.

About one-third of the troops from the battalion hail from Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties.
