GOP Names Brauckmann, McCarthy as Candidates

Cinnaminson Republicans including the township’s current mayor and a newcomer to round out the two seats up for grabs this November.

The deadline to file for the June primary was Monday at 4 p.m.

Don Brauckmann, a Moorestown police officer who was this year, will run for a second term. Joining him is John McCarthy, a sales executive with .

“There’s still a lot to accomplish,” Brauckmann said. “I still have a lot of ideas. I have a vision of the direction the township is going and there are still a lot of things I want to do.”

Brauckmann, who is also the director of parks and recreation, joined township committee in 2009 and was appointed mayor by committee members earlier this year.

McCarthy said the party approached him regarding a possible political bid.

“I always have been somebody that’s involved,” McCarthy said. “I thought about it, talked to the important people in my life and decided it would be a good thing to do.”

McCarthy said he would bring “good communication and good organization” to the committee.

The married father of three moved from the Mayfair section of Philadelphia five years ago to Cinnaminson. After checking out homes in Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Delran and more, McCarthy and his family settled on Cinnaminson.

“Cinnaminson just kept coming in as the best home value, lowest taxes, and the best combination of location and house for our money,” he said.

McCarthy doesn’t see himself as political, “just somebody who likes to help out,” he said.

“That’s what I like to do,” McCarthy added. “I’d rather go up to the than complain.”

McCarthy admitted he was “caught off guard” when asked to consider a candidacy but with his two oldest kids in college and the third starting high school in the fall, he said he’d go for it.

“If they think I’m a good enough guy to do it, I’ll give it a shot,” he said.

McCathy said his main concerns for the township are helping keep it safe, continuing to better the parks and to continue on the path of Route 130 redevelopment.

“When we moved, was being built,” he said. “To see where it all is now, I’m thrilled with that.”

Brauckmann also said he wants to continue helping with the Route 130 corridor and has ideas for parks projects.

“You get involved in these projects and you want to see them through to completion,” Brauckmann said.

No other candidates filed Monday, said township clerk Pam McCartney. Democrats can stage a write-in campaign to put names on the ballot this November, but Monday’s deadline was for the primary, which is June 5. That is also the same day Independents must file for the June primary.

Last year, three Independents filed in the spring for the general election, which is Nov. 6.

The general election is Nov. 6.

Committeeman John Rooney is not running for another term this November and cited work as the main reason.

“I got a promotion so my work schedule is just crazy,” Rooney said. “It’s a lot worse than it was two or three years ago.”

Rooney said he plans on keeping his seat on the planning board. He credits his work with the as a big accomplishment during his time in office.

“It’s just a thrill and a privilege working with the guys in the department,” Rooney said. “They are just a great group.”

Both Brauckmann and McCarthy are members of the Cinnaminson GOP and chairman Richard Strobel thinks they will make a good team this election season.

Brauckmann “represents the very best of public service,” Strobel said.

“We’re very fortunate to have John (McCarthy) step forward this year and join Don is making a great town even better,” he added.
