Three Democrats are pursuing their party’s nomination, including Burlington County Freeholder and attorney Aimee Belgard, attorney Howard Kleinhendler and Jack Fanous, founder and director of The G.I. Go Fund, a nonprofit that is dedicated to helping the nation’s veterans.
Democrats in the 28 races pegged important receive support from the national Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee established 16 “Red to Blue” races, which includes New Jersey’s Third Congressional District race, and 12 “Emerging Races” that could become competitive, including the Second Congressional District, according to the report.
Tom MacArthur is the likely choice of Republicans in both Burlington and Ocean counties. Multiple Republicans are seeking to fill Runyan’s seat, including former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan, who lost to Cory Booker in last year’s special election for the U.S. Senate, and State Sen. Christopher Connors.
Runyan held the seat since 2011. Democrat John Adler held the seat prior to that, but Republican H. James Saxton represented the district from 1993-2009.
The Third Congressional District is made up of parts of Ocean and Burlington counties, including Cinnaminson.
The primaries takes place June 3.
