Troops Deploying to Middle East From South Jersey

President Obama recently announced 275 troops will be deployed to Iraq to secure the embassy after fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant seized control of the northern part of the country.

Over 450 New Jersey National Guard Troops from the 1-114th Infantry Battalion will be deployed to Qatar on Wednesday, the Asbury Park Press reports.

About one-third of the troops from the battalion hail from Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties, according to the report.

President Barack Obama recently announced 275 troops would be deployed to Iraq and special forces may be sent into the country to secure the embassy after fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) seized control of the northern part of the country. There was no indication these deployments were necessarily connected to that mission.
