Cinnaminson Schools' Administrator Named Top Official in State

Tom Egan also won a distinguished service award.

Cinnaminson schools’ business administrator has been named school board business official of the year, and will be honored at the state board of education meeting in May.

Tom Egan Jr., who has been with the district for 13 years, found out last week when members of the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO) bestowed him with the honor.

“I was very surprised,” Egan said. “It has been a very humbling experience, to be recognized with this prestigious award. It caught me off-guard.”

Egan also learned he won a distinguished service award, a regional award from the Burlington County chapter of the NJASBO.

Superintendent Salvatore Illuzzi got a call from the Burlington County president of the group who had nominated him. Egan was one of six who won that honor. Illuzzi, who originally hired Egan in 1999, said everyone is “thrilled” for him.

“It’s very well-deserved,” Illuzzi said. “He’s one of the hardest workers we have. He’s always accommodating to his colleagues in the field. They look to him. He has the answers.”

Egan is a member of the ASBO and even served as president of the county chapter in the past.

“When I heard I won that award,” Egan said, “I thought, ‘Wow.’ It was truly amazing. I would not have expected it.”

Prior to working for the beginning in 1999, Egan was an assistant business administrator at Lower Camden County Regional. Prior to that, Egan worked in public accounting. He worked auditing schools and municipalities for more than 13 years.

Like any humble employee, Egan, a Medford Lakes resident, thanks his staff.

“I have a very good administrative staff and I have a terrific board,” Egan said. “I enjoy working with the superintendent. I have a terrific business office staff. Without all of those, I wouldn’t be receiving this award. That’s what I enjoy here. I have really good people and we’re all here for the benefit of the children.”

Egan will be presented with an award at the New Jersey Department of Education meeting in May. He will also receive a plaque at the NJASBO conference in June.
