CMS Students Face Soup-er Bowl Challenge

To celebrate, Principal Frank Golburn dressed like a turkey.

The Cinnaminson Middle School students and staff continued with their plan to “Take a Stand…Lend a Hand, last week for their annual Soup-er Bowl Challenge.

Students and staff were asked to bring in one or more cans of soup or non-perishable foods to contribute to the Food Bank of South Jersey and the Bread of Life Food Pantry in Palmyra. As a reward for the students, if they reached their goal of over 600 cans, Principal Goulburn and the Athletic Director, Mr. Liddell, would dress up as a turkey and chicken for the day. The school family surpassed their goal and collected over 900 items.

In addition to this collection, the club held its annual Senior Citizens’ Soup-er Supper last Wednesday in the middle school cafeteria. Over 170 community Seniors attended the dinner that was organized by the Unity Club. Parents, teachers, students, and community businesses donated items for the event.  As admission, Seniors brought non-perishable items that will be donated at our February visit to the FBSJ and to the Bread of Life Food Pantry.

Sincere appreciation goes to our district administration and central office staff, the middle school faculty and staff, our Unity Club parents, and the Home and School, who cooked, baked, created delicious desserts, chopped salad, bought bread, or made a donation for supplies.

Special thanks to Tony’s Pizza, Shop Rite of Mount Laurel-Union Mill Rd, Shop Rite of Cinnaminson, Wegman’s of Mount Laurel & Café Madison all who donated items for the dinner. These activities are  part of the Cinnaminson Middle School Unity Club’s annual service learning projects under the direction of club co-advisors, Ms. Melissa DeClementi and Mrs. Alison Palat.
