Nearly 200 volunteers were recognized by the board of education Tuesday, and the board also accepted the resignation of one of its members.

Nearly 200 volunteers were recognized by the Cinnaminson board of education Tuesday for their contributions to the school district.

Door greeters, room parents, volunteers with the Drama Club and Home and School, and more, were presented with small gifts—a token of the district’s appreciation.

“It really is just a token, because there really isn’t anything we can give to express our gratitude to these people,” said Superintendent Salvatore Illuzzi. “In all honesty, this district would not be as good as it is, without the help and support of these folks.”

Board Member Stephen Kenny remarked that, with nearly 200 volunteers, the district had roughly one volunteer for every 10 students.

“I never realized the depth of commitment,” he said.

Board Member James McGuckin echoed Kenny and Illuzzi, suggesting the dedication of Cinnaminson’s volunteers sets it apart: “You look at other districts—they may be bigger, but they don’t have what we have.”

After individually recognizing a number of volunteers in attendance at Tuesday’s meeting, Illuzzi gave special thanks to the Cinnaminson Education Foundation and the board of education itself.

The district will recognize its staff next month, including giving out the Teacher of the Year Award, while the student body will be recognized in June, according to the superintendent.

In other business, the board accepted the resignation of Board Member Linda DiMassimo.

Everyone on the board praised DiMassimo for her service, including President Jean Cohen, who remarked, “What a great heart she had.”

Illuzzi had similarly kind words: “There’s no one who questioned the heart of this person or the love she had for the children of this district.”

DiMassimo resigned for personal reasons. She was not in attendance at Tuesday’s meeting.

Illuzzi said the board, by law, has 65 days to fill the vacancy. They’ve begun accepting applications, and whoever the board selects will fill out the remainder of DiMassimo’s term, which expires at the end of this year.

The board also accepted a $5,000 donation from the Take Down Club to purchase a new wrestling mat for the Cinnaminson Middle School wrestling team.
