Boys' Soccer Defeats Northern Burlington 3-1

The Pirates extended their winning streak to four games with the win over Northern Burlington on Monday afternoon.

The Pirates came into Monday afternoon’s game in the midst of a three game winning streak, improving their record to 3-2 against Delran, Bordentown and Rancocas Valley. Cinnaminson hosted Northern Burlington Monday, defeating the Greyhounds 3-1 to extend the winning streak to four games.

The lone goal scored by the Greyhounds on Monday was the first goal allowed by the Pirates during their winning streak. During the first three games of the winning streak, all three wins were shutouts, with the team outscoring its opponents 6-0.

Senior midfielder Colin Lynch put the Pirates on the scoreboard first, with the only goal of the first half on an assist from senior midfielder John McInerney.

“John McInerney had a run down the side and I saw no one was in the middle and as soon as I ran in he played a beautiful ball right into my foot. It changed the entire momentum of the game and we started attacking more. It was nice,” Lynch said.

The leadership of team captains Justin Redziniak and Timothy Kemmerle has helped the team come together as one during this four game winning streak.

“It took them a while to get used to what they had to do too. You have to keep the other kids up; you can’t worry about yourselves so much; they are very unselfish kids. The play of Colin Lynch has just picked up the whole team. He’s done a superb job for us,” head coach Bill Dent said.

McInerney added a goal in the second half to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead before Dave Cohen of Northern Burlington would put the Greyhounds on the board with his team’s lone goal of the game on a penalty kick. Redziniak would score the third and final goal of the game for the Pirates, securing their fourth straight win.

“I think we stayed together when we started off with a couple losses. We had a mini meeting; it wasn’t a wholesale meeting. I said a lot of people would throw in the towel and start making wholesale changes, we don’t need to make changes, we have people in the right spots,” Dent said.

The Pirates defense was stifling on Monday afternoon, allowing its first goal during the team’s streak on a penalty kick, causing goalkeeper Joe Calendo to make only seven saves against the Greyhounds. Northern Burlington goalkeeper Kevin Heart made 20 saves.

“The defense did a very good job of keeping everything out. When the ball was on one side they moved over real fast and they were able to pick up the extra man,” Lynch said.

The Pirates travel to Burlington Township on Wednesday looking for their fifth straight win.
