Boys' Soccer Falls to Moorestown 1-0

The Pirates are in the midst of a three-game losing streak after falling to Moorestown 1-0 last night.

The Pirates had lost two straight coming into Wednesday night’s game against Moorestown (5-5, 4-2) and have struggled to score goals of late. The lack of offense was present for both teams Wednesday night as the Quakers knocked off the Pirates 1-0.

The lone goal of the game was scored by Alec Nicolai early in the second half. The Quakers defense was able to keep Cinnaminson (4-5, 3-4) off the scoreboard despite some excellent scoring chances throughout the game.

“We were hoping to find a way to score a goal, which has been very hard for us this year. Today we had two early ones. One cross hit the post, scooted out, and one where the goalie went down and we had an open net,” head coach Bill Dent said.

The Pirates have had an up and down season, losing their first two games, winning their next four games, and now losing their last three games. During their current three-game losing streak, the Pirates have been outscored 4-1 and have been shut out twice.

“I thought we played very well tonight, very respectable, very competitive game. I wouldn’t want to be somebody playing him (Moorestown Head Coach Mike Sutcliffe) or me in the state tournament,” Dent said. “Our records are very deceiving because we beat each other up all year long. We hold our own and if we can find a way to score a goal we become very tough.”

The Pirates host division rival Delran (6-4-2, 4-2) Friday.

The Pirates will possibly need to plug in some players at Tim Kemmerle’s spot on the field after he suffered an eye injury during the game on Wednesday night.

“If he’s not playing then we will have a senior out and a sophomore or junior playing there, which hurts us. Timmy’s our captain, one of our leaders, a three-year starter,” Dent said.

Cinnaminson has had a tough schedule this week, losing to division rivals Rancocas Valley and Moorestown, with Delran still on the slate for Friday.
