Cinnaminson Baseball Faces Burlington in Final Game of Semifinals

Game three of the best-of-three series is tonight at 6:30. The winner advances to the RVL finals.

Cinnaminson baseball finds itself , needing to beat the Burlington Mets tonight at Southampton Memorial Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30pm.

In game one of the best-of-three series, Cinnaminson knocked off Burlington by a score of 5-4, picking up the winning run in the seventh inning thanks to an infield RBI single with the bases loaded off the bat of second baseman Greg Gilbert.

“We had Nick Melchoirre on the mound against Shaun Babula, who when healthy, is the best pitcher in the league. He shut us down until the last inning. He got tired, walked a couple guys, allowed a couple of hits and we scored two runs in the bottom of seventh,” Manager Brett Miller said.

Game two saw Burlington tie the series up at one game apiece with a 3-2 win over Cinnaminson. Carl Taylor earned the win with a complete game effort for Burlington, while Bobby Diepold took the loss for Cinnaminson. Diepold allowed three earned runs over five innings. Jeff Singer threw a scoreless inning in relief for Cinnaminson.

“We just came out flat in game two. We got a run early in the first inning and kind of waited for something to happen. We were kind of dead the whole game. We waited until the last inning to get another run, which was a little too late,” Miller said.

The third and final game of the series takes place tonight and Cinnaminson will have its ace, Ryan Varga, on the hill to face Burlington’s John Harvey. Varga has pitched to a 0.72 ERA this season and has compiled a record of 9-1 with seven complete games and two saves. Harvey is 6-4 with seven complete games and a 2.09 ERA this season.

“Varga is the ace of our staff and he is throwing tonight. He has been best the pitcher in our league all year. We live and die with him so we will take our chances. Harvey is throwing for Burlington and he is a good quality pitcher. Sometimes we hit him pretty good and other times he shuts us down,” Miller said.

If Cinnaminson wins, they will advance to the finals against either Delran or Vincentown, whose series is tied at one game apiece. Game three of the Delran-Vincentown series is tonight following the Cinnaminson-Burlington game.

The games are at Southampton Memorial Park in Vincentown.
