Cinnaminson Resident Helps Team New Jersey to Soccer Title at Special Olympics

Mark Cellini had two goals in seven tournament games.

With a Cinnaminson resident on the roster, Team New Jersey captured the Gold Medal in the 5-on-5 Traditional Men’s Soccer competition during the Special Olympics New Jersey on Friday.

Team New Jersey topped Team Texas, 5-1, in the final on Friday.

Cinnaminson resident Mark Cellini scored two goals in seven tournament games. Cellini is a 2012 graduate of Kingsway Learning Center in Moorestown.

Cellini, 23, works for Bayada Home Health Care as an office assistant and volunteers at New Albany Elementary School.  

He participates in four Special Olympic sports: soccer, floor hockey, basketball, and softball.  He has also earned a Junior Black Belt in 2011 at Amerikick in Delran.

The 10-man roster featured athletes from all over the state, including Mount Laurel resident Ian Murray and Cherry Hill resident Peter Poole.

The Special Olympics mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

This year's games were played in Mercer County from June 14-20.
