Cinnaminson U11 Baseball Team Wins Tourney, Competes in Districts Friday

The Pirates win in walkoff fashion at the Sicklerville tournament.

The Cinnaminson Pirates U11 Baseball team won the Sand Lot Baseball Tournament held in Sicklerville last weekend.

The Pirates went 4-0 in the weekend tournament.

On June 30, the Priates beat the SJ Braves 11-3 and the Pine Hill Rams 12-2. According to Jim Farrell, a parent with a son on the team, both games had great pictching and hitting and was a "total team effort."

On July 1, the team faced Mt. Laurel and Pirate Craig Horsley pitched five innings, striking out five and only allowing one walk, leading his team to the 4-0 win. Pitcher Adam Farrell closed the 6th inning by striking out two and earning the save.

The second game on July 1 was the championship game agaist Cherry Hill, who won their morning game to advance to face Cinnaminson. Runs were scored in almost all innings, despite the excellent pitching effort from both teams, Farrell said.

Pitcher Nick Sullivan started the game for Cinnaminson. He went two innings, gave up two runs and struck out two. Jack Stokes came in and battled the Cherry Hill team for three innings, struck out four but allowed seven runs. The game was closed by Adam Farrell who pictched two scoreless innings the top of the 6th and the extra inning top of the 7th to hold Cherry at bay.

The Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game. Players Drew Colfer, Matt Stavalone, Jack Fusco, Jack Stokes and Joe Serici battled in the 7th to record a walkoff win.

This Pirates move to the district tournament 5:30 p.m., Friday in Mt. Laurel. They play again Sunday. If they win either or both, they play during next week in the double elimination tournament.
