Navigating Burlington County presentation

Delaware River Steam Boats, which during their heyday made regular stops in Edgewater Park at what now is The Red Dragon Canoe Club.  Paul W. Schopp, a professional historian with a passion for transportation history, will bring his Powerpoint presentation, Navigating Burlington County, to the club. The public is invited.  Schopp’s program will focus on the steamships that navigated the Delaware River and the Rancocas Creek during the 1800s and into the 1900s.  An engaging speaker, Schopp uses historic images ranging from photos to post cards to illustrate a time when steam vessel transportation on the river and creek were not only common but the dominant means of commerce. The steamboat show is the first of a series of monthly events The Red Dragon Canoe Club will host during 2012 in a renewed effort to use the club’s Shipman Mansion and its waterfront facilities to introduce area residents to the cultural, architectural and riverfront heritage of Edgewater Park. Attendance to the programs is free. Limited seating is on a first-come basis.
