Game Preview: Cinnaminson Stares Down Bordentown

After the homecoming festivities were washed out Wednesday night, the Cinnaminson football team will take on Bordentown Friday, hoping to improve its record to 5-3.

After a nor'easter put a damper on Cinnaminson's homecoming festivities and football game with this week, the Pirates football squad will try to take advantage of an extra two days of preparation.

Cinnaminson will host Bordentown Friday night at 7 p.m. at Cinnaminson High School.

Here are some things you need to know as the Pirates seek to improve to 5-3 on the year:

Last time out: Cinnaminson fell to 4-3 with a 29-21 loss to Willingboro (4-3) on Oct. 26, when Cinnaminson gave up all 29 points in the first half. After holding an early 7-0 lead on a 4-yard touchdown run from Nick Thevanayagan, Willingboro answered with 15 points in the first quarter, and another 14 in the second quarter. The Pirates got rushing touchdowns from Tom Donnelly and Xavier Wilson in the second half to close the gap, but couldn’t complete the comeback. Willingboro won their third game in a row.

Bordentown hopes to snap a two-game losing streak. The Scotties (4-3) lost their most recent game at home to Florence, 26-15, on Oct. 26. Bordentown quarterback Nick Bartolomei threw two touchdown passes in the loss.

Interesting notes: Cinnaminson’s game on Friday’s game will be just its second since Oct. 11, a 48-14 victory over Palmyra. Cinnaminson is currently tied for second place in the West Jersey Liberty division with a 4-3 record.

Bordentown was previously 4-1 and just one game behind undefeated Delran for the top spot in the West Jersey Liberty division. However, two straight losses have slowed down the Scotties, while Delran has risen to 7-0.

Crunching numbers: The Pirates are averaging 27.6 points per game, while giving up an average of 20.6 to their opponents. Cinnaminson has given up fewer than 15 points in four of their seven games.

The Scotties are averaging 25 points per game, and giving up only 18.1 points a game. Bordentown’s offense has been an enigma of sorts: it has scored 32 or more points three times (3-0), but scored 15 or less three times as well (1-2).
