Delran Extends Season for Farmers Market

Citing its growing popularity, Delran Township has decided to keep its first-ever farmers market going through the end of September.

Haven’t had a chance to stop by Delran’s new farmers market? Don’t worry, you’ve got even more time to do it now.

The township’s first-ever farmers market has proven so popular, township officials decided last week to extend it through the end of September.

“Our vendors had questioned us early on if we would consider extending the market’s season,” said Councilwoman Lona Pangia, who brainstormed the market earlier this year. “They were confident enough in the market and I am confident enough in our fabulous volunteers to help extend the season.”

According to a release from the township, the farmers market was popular from the day it first opened, on June 18, and attendance has grown since.

“As our first night geared up and the skies turned cloudy, I have to admit I was nervous,” Pangia said. “Then one by one the vendors started lining up, the volunteers were all out, and by 4 p.m. customers holding umbrellas over their heads made their way over to check out the vendors.”

The market is held from 4-8 p.m. every Tuesday at the municipal complex at 900 Chester Avenue. There are currently 14 vendors, with room for about four more, Pangia said. Those interested in becoming a vendor should contact the township clerk at 856-461-7734.

And while the market is a township-sponsored event, it’s organized each week by a group of volunteers—along with a few members of council—all putting in more than 100 hours to make it the success it’s become, Pangia explained. Anyone interested in volunteering should call volunteer chairwoman Laura Kulinski at 856-461-7463.
