Election Day, Porch Club Shopping Spree Highlight Week Ahead

Also, find out why Cinnaminson schools have a short week this week.

Halloween's come and gone, so it must be time to start shopping for the holidays, right?

Why wait for Black Friday? The Porch Club of Riverton kicks off the holiday season with its fifth annual shopping spree from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Porch Club (Fourth and Howard streets, Riverton). Twenty-five local crafters and artisans will be on hand selling unique items. Food and refreshments will also be sold at the event.

Tuesday is, of course, election day. Both local races—township committee and the BOE—are uncontested (though you always have the write-in option), but there are plenty of choices to consider in the state and county races. Not sure where you're supposed to vote? Check our handy election primer to find out (check the bottom of the article for voting districts and corresponding polling places).

And read up on the school board candidates—their accomplishments, qualifications and aspirations—in a series of short profiles published last month.

Township committee does NOT meet Monday (both the work session and regular meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 18). The Zoning Board, however, meets Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the municipal building, and the Parks and Recreation Commission meets on Thursday (same time, same place).

Cinnaminson schools will be closed Thursday and Friday for a New Jersey Education Association teacher's convention.

Westfield Friends School will host "Walk-in Tuesday" this week, from 10-11:30 a.m. Prospective parents and students are invited to take a tour of the school, and meet with faculty and student ambassadors, no appointment necessary. The school will be closed Friday for parent-teacher conferences.

And don't forget to catch Burlington County Footlighters' high-tech production of Dracula this weekend (if you catch the Friday show, you're invited to a special Bram Stoker birthday party following the performance).
