Thanksgiving, Student Honors Highlight Week Ahead

Cinnaminson has plenty to be thankful for this week. Did we miss something? Let us know.

In the spirit of the season, let's take a look at the week ahead by considering all that there is to be thankful for over these next few days:

  • Excellent students — Cinnaminson High School students will be inducted into the National Honor Society during a special ceremony Monday night in the high school auditorium. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m.
  • Holiday counseling — The Samaritan Center for Grief Support, a member
of the Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice Family of Services, will host a free support group to help those grieving the loss of a loved one cope during the holiday season. The session will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Cinnaminson branch of the Burlington County Library (1619 Riverton Road). Pre-registration is required.
  • Municipal government — The township planning board meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building.
  • No school! — Cinnaminson students will have a four-day weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving beginning Thursday. (Students return to school Monday, Dec. 2.)
  • FootballThe Pirates clash with crosstown rival Delran beginning at 11 a.m. Thanksgiving Day at Delran High School. The WJFL Liberty Division crown—which Cinnaminson has won the last two years—is once again on the line in this holiday rivalry. Go Pirates!
  • Success stories — Cinnaminson High School grad Steven Hart will speak about political bosses Nucky Johnson (inspiration for the HBO series Boardwalk Empire) and Frank Hague during an appearance at the Barnes & Noble in Marlton on Sunday, Dec. 1. Hart, an author and journalist, will also autograph copies of his new nonfiction book, American Dictators: Frank Hague, Nucky Johnson, and the Perfection of the Urban Political Machine.
  • ThanksgivingTurkey Day may play second fiddle to Christmas, but there's plenty to love about the holiday: relatively guilt-free overeating; football (see above); and most importantly, time spent with loved ones. So if you're thankful for nothing else, be thankful for that. Happy Thanksgiving!
