Michael C. Boland Jr. passed away Monday, May 14, 2012. Born in Philadelphia, Michael was 80 years old. He was a resident of Palmyra and formerly of Cinnaminson. He died in Kingston, Pa. Mike proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a graduate from LaSalle University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Mike was a retired employee of Lockheed Martin Marietta. Beloved husband of Pat (Morrison, née Wink) and the late Ann (née Hoban). Beloved mother of Karen (Joe) Molloy of Cinnaminson, Susan Peak of Chester Springs, PA, and Steven (Barbara) Peak of Cinnaminson. Florence T. Martin (nee White) passed away peacefully on April 27, 2012 at the Voorhees Care Center. Born in Philadelphia, Florence was 86 years old. She was a former resident of Cinnaminson. Wife of the late Don White, Florence is survived by her daughter Corinne B. White. Sister of Eleanor Franklin, Virginia Weber, Thomas Martin, Joseph Martin, Theresa Martin, Raymond Martin, Frances Martin and the late Rita McGaughrin. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Florence was employed as an administrative assistant for ARI in Mt. Laurel. Sybil Smith Calloway passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 14, 2012. She was 71. Born in Goldsboro, NC. She was a resident of both Cinnaminson and Edgewater Park, NJ. Sybil was a teacher in the Cinnaminson School System and also worked at Lourdes Health System in Willingboro. Sybil was a life member of the Palmyra Ambulance Association. Sybil was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Rosa Smith, her brother, Jerry Smith and sister JoAnne D’Amato. Sybil was the loving mother figure of Dawn Haines, and a very special aunt to her niece, Candi Wildey. Sybil is survived by her sisters Jean Fowles of Cinnaminson and Becky Walker of Marlton. The legendary host reportedly suffered a heart attack.
Legendary television personality Dick Clark has died, according to several new outlets, including the Huffington Post. He was 82. Clark reportedly suffered a heart attack Wednesday, a day after undergoing an outpatient procedure at a Los Angeles area hospital. Clark had strong area connections, having hosted the popular show American Bandstand in Philadelphia from 1952 until it moved to Hollywood in 1964. He owned a home in Drexel Hill, Delaware County, PA. In 2004, Clark suffered a stroke and was forced to retire from New Year's Rockin' Eve, an ABC show he created and hosted since 1972. Harold Leonard Ley Harold Leonard Ley, of Mount Laurel, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on April 7, 2012. He was 50 years old. Harold was the beloved husband of Maureen Ann (nee Meehan), devoted father of Kaitlyn and Aidan, dear brother of Barbara Ley, and loving son of Ruthann Nilson. Harold received his masters in philosophy, computer science, and computer literature at Binghamton University. He was the CEO of Mercer County Teacher’s Federal Credit Union, and an adjunct professor at Burlington County Community College. Self-made South Jersey man Frederick Sutton died in the sinking of the Titanic, which went down 100 years ago April 15.
One hundred years ago, the unthinkable news began reaching New Jersey: The “unsinkable” Titanic met with disaster, sinking in the freezing Atlantic Ocean on its maiden voyage. In Haddonfield, one family anxiously waited with increasing panic before confirming the worst news possible. Family patriarch Frederick Sutton, a self-made man who rose to the top of local business and society circles, perished in the April 15, 1912, sinking. Sutton was the only New Jerseyan passenger from south of Trenton aboard Titanic. In many ways, Sutton was the embodiment of the American story.
