Patch makes it easy to share your prom photos.
Cinnaminson High School's prom has come and gone, but you can relive the memories—and share them with everyone else—by uploading your photos to Patch. We've started the gallery by adding a photo from the 2011 prom—now all you have to do is click on "Upload Photos and Videos" below the photo and upload the photos from your computer. Cinnaminson School Superintendent Salvatore Illuzzi says the school district is offering a 'substantial cash reward' for information leading to an arrest.
UPDATE: Cinnaminson Public Safety Director Mickey King said police have a number of leads following Tuesday's second bomb scare at the high school, but could not provide specific details of the investigation, since it's ongoing. He said the operations carried out at the school both Monday and Tuesday, and the communication between the police department and the district, have gone smoothly. "The system works very well," he told the school board during its Tuesday night meeting. Rowan University held its 88th undergraduate ceremony Friday in Glassboro, graduating 238 Burlington County residents.
Members of Rowan University's 88th undergraduate class received their diplomas during the school's commencement ceremony Friday in Glassboro. State Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney, a West Deptford resident, delivered the commencement address. Among the graduates were 238 Burlington County residents, including 11 from Cinnaminson. The school district's pilot program—in which students bring their own technology into the classroom—has been a hit, school officials say. And they're planning on expanding.
Since implementing a "Bring Your Own Technology" program at Cinnaminson High School at the beginning of the year, the district has seen students take a more active, engaged role in their learning. The program, which allows students to use their own electronics (i.e. smartphones, iPads) in the classroom, was launched as a pilot with just nine high school teachers at the beginning of the school year. The benefit of the program—or at least, one of the benefits—is it allows the district to use technology to enhance classroom learning, without the district having to spend a dime, explained Superintendent Salvatore Illuzzi. Cinnaminson High School held its annual People's Choice Awards, recognizing students who went out of their way to perform random acts of kindness throughout the year.
Twenty-one Cinnaminson High School students were recognized Thursday for performing good deeds—some subtle, some obvious—and random acts of kindness throughout the past year. The school's 14th annual People's Choice Awards honored the students for a variety of gracious acts: offering a kind word and a helping hand to a teacher, intervening in instances of bullying, or keeping a lonely fellow student company during lunch. A trio of girls—Genevieve Cherubini, Charlotte Day-Smith and Grace Shallow—had volunteered for Contact of Burlington County's (a 24/7 crisis helpline) TeenLine, "a teen-to-teen confidential helpline," after hearing about it in the morning announcements. The school board handed out awards for Teacher of the Year and the annual Achievement Awards. The district will recognize student achievement at next month's meeting.
The Cinnaminson Board of Education recognized its most exemplary teachers and staff Tuesday, handing out awards for Teacher of the Year at each of the district's four schools, as well as the annual achievement awards. Here's what school officials had to say about several of the winners: Cinnaminson High School Teacher of the Year Jennifer Alvarado Principal Darlene Llewellyn: "She single-handedly pioneered the study of forensic science at CHS by writing the curriculum and developing the course … Jen is an outstanding educator who is committed to providing an excellent education for all of her students. Burlington County College will hold commencement ceremonies this weekend.
Burlington County College will mark its 43rd annual commencement beginning at 10 a.m. this Saturday, with 1,370 students receiving their degrees. The keynote address will be delivered by Rochelle Hendricks, New Jersey's first secretary of higher education. Appointed to the post by Governor Chris Christie in May, Hendricks has also served previously as acting commissioner of the state Department of Education. Cinnaminson High School's Interact Club held its fourth annual talent show last week, with 19 students competing and displaying an array of talents, including dancing, singing, piano- and violin-playing, and more. More than $1,500 was raised, to be split between Hydraid (www.hydraid.org) and Shelter Boxes (www.shelterboxusa.org), both charities promoted by the Interact Club sponsor, the Palmyra-Riverton-Cinnaminson Rotary Club. The club has raised more than $9,000 from the talent show over the last four years, and will have purchased five Shelter Boxes ($1,000 each), donated more than $3,000 to Hydraid, and contributed almost $1,000 to Red Cross relief efforts. The Cinnaminson Home and School Association is fundraising for the annual Project Graduation party for high school seniors.
Parents aren't stupid. They know graduating seniors celebrating their last night of high school, if left to their own devices, can be a recipe for trouble Which is why Project Graduation is so important, according to Terese Campbell. "In terms of safety, (graduation night) is a very emotionally charged event," said Campbell, a member of the Cinnaminson Home and School Association.
