Building Starts at Go-Kart Facility, Opening Date Set

Speed Raceway will open its third national location right here in Cinnaminson.

The go-kart facility slated for an empty Cinnaminson shopping center is now out of the demolition phase and into the building phase, according to officials. The tracks will be custom built and dozens of go-karts should arrive some time next month, said Travis Thompson, co-owner. Speed Raceway, the Denver-based go-kart facility, is set to open this fall where Vanity Fair once was in the Acme shopping center. The track is indoors and entirely electric, featuring European-style karts for riders ages 7 and up. Three video racing simulators and conference rooms for birthday parties or business meetings round out the facility’s features. Earlier this month, Speed Raceway opened a location in Horsham, PA, and Thompson said everything has been …

Frugal Family

Supermarket sales, pretzel perks, spa specials and sandwich savings are all found here.

This week we found some savvy supermarket sales that are too good to pass up. In addition to that, Mom can enjoy some discounted “me” time at Hand & Stone Spa before she is enduring the morning rush to the bus, crazy sports schedules and nightly homework chaos. While doing your back-to-school shopping, stop at the Moorestown Mall for their Back-to-School Style Multiplier and the free school supply packages with $75 in mall receipts. Payless is having their BOGO deal until Sept. 6 so you can pick up those trendy fall styles, too. If you get a little hungry, try a yummy Auntie Ann pretzel...or two or three.  In addition to the sales we are highlighting below, Staples and Target have some great school supply specials going on now so check it …

Cinnaminson's New Hibachi Grill Open for Business

The Asian cuisine restaurant aims to please with the area's largest sushi bar.

Township diners have a new eatery option—the Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet on Route 130 is ready for hungry diners after opening its doors on March 11. The Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet, the chain's largest restaurant in New Jersey, is located in the space next to the closed Branch Brooks store in the Acme shopping center. It's hard to miss the restaurant, with the parking lot fluttering under a tangle of colorful flags to herald the new dining spot. With more than 20,000 square feet of space, the new restaurant is advertising a large selection of Chinese, Japanese and American cuisine. Keeping up with the highly competitive Asian restaurant markets, the owners hope the wide-ranging menu is a success. “Our buffet bar will have over 250 …

I am satisfied with Hibachi...Let's remember that it is a buffet, it is not a sit down dinner, cooked to order. The nature of the food is mass produced, hence the name buffet. But for a buffet I would say it is excellent. And the price is right. There may be cars lined to 130, but the inside is huge with tons of seating. Since I don't love buffets I focused on the Hibachi part which was great. I …   more ›

Cinnaminson Acme Was Not Meeting Corporate Goals

WIth all the redevelopment going on in the township, finding tenants for the Acme site will be added to the to-do list for 2011.

The announcement that Acme in Cinnaminson was closing was not exactly breaking news to Committeeman Anthony V. Minniti, director of economic development. "Corporately, they've been struggling," Minniti said. Officials for Acme Markets announced Tuesday the Cinnaminson store was closing by the end of next month. The Moorestown store on Young Avenue will also close, as well as four other regional sites in Pennsylvania and Maryland. "Acme has not been able to compete," Minniti said. A spokesperson for Acme said the stores are not meeting company goals, especially in this economy. Minniti thinks it's not just the economic climate, or the opening of ShopRite just a few miles down Rt. 130; Acme faced other challenges as well. Cinnaminson …

Corporate office also announces closing of Moorestown site.

Update Tuesday, Jan. 4, 3:10 p.m.: According to Acme markets, both the Cinnaminson and Moorestown stores will close by the end of February, with the pharmacies scheduled to close on Jan. 19. "It is occasionally necessary to close those that are not meeting company goals in today's competitive and difficult economic environment," the release said. "While the decision to close a store is difficult—given the impact on associates and customers—Acme has a responsibility to do what is best for the long-term growth and success of the company as a whole."   Original Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1:57 p.m. The Rt. 130 Cinnaminson Acme will be closing by the end of February, according to a press release from the corporate offices.
