Authorities: Mt. Laurel Man Wrote Bogus Check for Moorestown Home

Brett Cooper, of Mount Laurel, was indicted for writing a $484,000 check off an account that had no money in it.

A Mount Laurel man who tried to purchase a Moorestown home with a nearly half-million dollar check written off an empty bank account has been indicted, according to authorities. Brett A. Cooper, 35, of 1609 Larchmont Place, Mount Laurel, had come to an agreement on a purchase price for a home in Moorestown. At the closing, he produced a check for $484,000 and represented it to be from his bank, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office. The check was revealed to be fraudulent however when the title insurance company was notified by Cooper’s bank that his account contained insufficient funds to cover the check.
