County Seeks Students' Help with New Logo

Burlington County's logo will be getting a makeover with help from local high school students.

  Creative high school students have a chance to become a part of Burlington County history. The county kicked off a new logo contest this week, and is seeking submissions from high school students. Students are asked to submit original designs for a new logo that will build upon the county’s new tagline: “South Jersey Starts Here.” The current logo, pictured here, depicts a covered wagon crossing a bridge. “Our county seal is a part of our history and will stay a part of the county, but we are looking for a logo that represents what is happening in the county now and also take us into the future,” said Freeholder Director Joe Donnelly. Today: Learn Job Skills in Burlington County

Representatives from healthcare, technology and more will be on hand.

  Meeting the local workforce demands and ensuring the education and training students obtain match these demands were driving forces behind the creation of a new seminar, “Job Skills for Growth Industries in Burlington County,” presented by Burlington County College (BCC) in collaboration with the Burlington County Bridge Commission Department of Economic Development and Regional Planning and Burlington County Library System. Give the Gift of Health This Valentine's Day

Starting Feb. 14, the Burlington County Health Department will be offering free immunizations at once-a-month clinics.

Know what makes a great Valentine’s Day gift for your sweetheart? A free immunization. No? Okay, maybe it’s not the most romantic idea, but it’s hard to argue with being healthy. As such, starting February 14 the Burlington County Health Department will begin offering adult immunization clinics to county residents from 3-6 p.m. every second Thursday of the month. As the senior citizen population continues to grow, the freeholders and the Health Department hope to reach the many adults who need important immunizations but are unable to receive them due to lack of coverage or high cost. Code Blue Weather Warning Declared for BurlCo

Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing tonight and tomorrow morning—with wind chill in the teens.

  With the wind chill expected to drop into the teens overnight, accompanied by strong winds and freezing temperatures, the Burlington County Health Department has declared a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency starting at 7 p.m. tonight, which will remain in effect through 9 a.m. Friday. Officials will review and assess upcoming weather forecasts tomorrow determine whether it should be extended.  A Code Blue declaration is made when winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter. When a Code Blue is enacted it provides for short-term emergency sheltering. County Giving Away Gun Locks at Moorestown Mall

The county will also be offering free gun locks at every branch of the Burlington County Library system.

  After last week’s tragic shooting in Connecticut underscored the importance of storing firearms safely, Burlington County is offering free gun locks at multiple locations today, including the Moorestown Mall. “Whether you are a gun owner or not, everyone can agree that firearm safety is paramount,” said Sheriff Jean Stanfield. “Gun locks are a simple way of adding a layer of security against gun-related injuries and deaths.” She said her department has several hundred locks, which were made available through Project ChildSafe, a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and supported by a U.S. Department of Justice grant.      Stanfield said the locks—which can be used to disarm pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns—…

County Honors Fallen at Wreaths Across America Ceremony

More than 500 wreaths were donated by private sponsors to decorate the gravestones of veterans at Beverly National Cemetery.

Burlington County Freeholder Deputy Director Joseph B. Donnelly gave a solemn address Saturday to a crowd of several hundred who gathered at Beverly National Cemetery in Edgewater Park for the annual Wreaths Across America remembrance ceremony.    Donnelly asked for a moment of silence to remember those who died Friday in the Newtown, CT shooting before thanking those in attendance for taking the time to honor those buried American veterans whose families and friends are no longer able to decorate their graves during the Christmas season. “Today, we are that family member, for we all belong to the same family whose first name is ‘proud’ and whose last name is ‘American,’’’ Donnelly said. Nor'easter Prompts Code Blue in Burlington County

A Code Blue provides for emergency shelters in the wake of freezing temperatures, snow and sleet.

Burlington County issued the following press release: With a strong coastal nor’easter bringing cold weather to the area, the Burlington County Health Department today declared that a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency will commence at 7 p.m. Wednesday and remain in effect through 7 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 8. Officials will then review and assess upcoming weather forecasts. County Aims to Create Jobs with 'Buy Local' Campaign

Burlington County Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio says if residents spent $20 more a month at county businesses, more than $40M would be injected into the local economy.

As part of a continuing effort to bolster business and job growth in Burlington County, the board of freeholders recently announced the initiation of a “Buy Local” campaign, to encourage residents to spend more of their retail dollars regionally.   In the near term, the Buy Local initiative will be advanced through a marketing and informational plan; the message will be disseminated through interaction with and special events with businesses and business organizations, through the Internet and through regular county publications. “We view this as another economic development tool, aimed at bolstering local business at the cash register, while sending a powerful message to potential new businesses that county government supports economic …

Cinnaminson Part of County Road Resurfacing Plan

The $7.7 million program hits more than 20 miles along 16 roads in 14 towns.

Freeholders this week reviewed the plans and specifications of Public Works Director Joseph T. Brickley’s Annual Road Resurfacing Program for what is anticipated to cost $7.7 million to overlay 16 county roads in 14 municipalities for a total of 21.4 miles. Cinnaminson is included in that plan. The county would fund the project with $4,504,000 from the annual NJ Transportation Trust Fund. The remaining $3.2 million would be funded by the county. Freeholders are expected to approve the plans and specifications, and authorize advertising for bids at the Oct. 24 meeting.
