County's Safety Seat Check Offers Peace of Mind for Parents

Fewer than 12 percent of car seats are installed correctly, according to the Burlington County Sheriff's Department.

Worried about your child's car seat? The Burlington County Sheriff’s Department will hold a “Safety Day” at the Medford Lakes Fire Department on Stokes Road from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. The free event will include child safety seat checks by certified child safety seat technicians. Anyone who has a car seat in their vehicle can stop by to make sure the seat is installed properly. “Parents should stop by to have their child’s safety seat checked. It only takes a few minutes to complete,” said Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield. “We have inspected more than 10,000 safety seats since we started this program 13 years ago. Over the last year, fewer than 12 percent of the seats we’ve checked have been installed correctly.”  The sheriff…

Check Your Child's Safety Seat for Free

The county is also offering senior citizen car safety checks and document-shredding.

Safety Day is Saturday and the Burlington County Sheriff's Department will host a variety of events aimed at keeping residents in the know. This free event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will include child safety seat checks by certified child safety seat technicians, free child fingerprinting, free document shredding and the senior citizens program, CarFit.  The event will be held in the parking lot of the mall in front of the former Macy’s store.  “All parents of young children should take advantage of our child safety seat checks,” said Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield in a recent release. “It only takes a few moments to make sure that your child’s car seat is safe and secure.”  The sheriff added that a child whose seat had been …
