Now, That’s Italian—Georgetti's Thrives in Cinnaminson

The Georgetti family has been serving residents home-cooked meals for decades.

Can food for the body also be nourishment for the soul? Step inside Georgetti’s Pasta and Sauce Market, and the answer awaits you. In this bedroom community, just 10 miles from a major metroplis, fresh food markets are a difficult find. But the Georgetti family has been rolling out extraordinary Italian foods for hungry locals for decades. In a snug one-story building on Cinnaminson Avenue, chefs bake, broil and fry signature meals. The smell of creamy garlic sauce, thick tomato gravy and simmering soups and stews fill the air.  Refrigerator cases hold packages of tri-color tortellini, lobster ravioli and vegetable lasagna available for a constant and steady customer base.  “This time of year, business picks up as the holidays get closer…

A Place for Service When Computers Become Sick

A trio of technicians helps us keep our technology running, rid hard drives of viruses, and guards computers from crashing.

Two potted plants face the doorway, folding tables draped in red linen cloths are set as makeshift desks, and dozens of laptops and desktop monitors wait their turn for repair. And, the next thing you notice when you walk into Computer Professional System (CPS) is the quiet, except for an occasional whine of a computer. For those of us who depend on our computers for work, catching up with friends, or playing a game, a malfunctioning mainframe can swirl us into utter mayhem. But technician Johny-Lee Hiteshew delivers a sly smile when asked why he enjoys fixing what the rest of us have broken.  “I just find it fun...getting inside and taking things apart,” said Hiteshew, 18, who's been a computer enthusiast for years and attended the …

Korean Fare Finds a Home in Cinnaminson

Sammy Chon’s KTown Express adds to the activity of businesses flourishing in the township.

Cinnaminson residents have yet another dining possibility with the recent opening of the bright and airy Sammy Chon’s KTown Express restaurant at the Shoppes of Cinnaminson. The Asian eatery is the newest restaurant to open in the township—on a pace of one a month— in a cozy space tucked between GameStop and Five Guys. Jersey Mike’s Subs opened in October in the Shoppes at Cinnaminson. And, across the highway, Zio’s Tuscan Grille opened in November in the Pep Boys Plaza. For some, the prospect of opening up a restaurant can be stressful, producing anxiety, and the feeling that more needs to be done. But Chon said the endeavors in preparing his new restaurant have been very easy, and it’s been a pleasure moving into Cinnaminson. “We are …

Rentals Units Become Available at the Siena

Stephen Hovnanian shares a new vision for the future of the luxurious retirement community in a sluggish economy.

When Stephen Hovnanian and his company decided to build Siena condominiums in Cinnaminson, the real estate market was experiencing one of its more lucrative spans in American history. On a tract of land previously comprised of mostly squalid one-story motels, notoriously known as “motel row” on Route 130, Hovnanian’s company set out to build a retirement community for adults over 55 years old.  As part of redevelopment laws, the township had razed the motels sitting on the 15-acre swathe—as well as a house and the very popular Fuji Japanese Restaurant—in an effort to rid the strip of criminal activity.  “Cinnaminson wanted to attract different businesses at that time,” Hovnanian said. “We saw a renaissance in the township taking place.”  …

An Independent Pharmacist Persists in a Changing Environment

Tom Stehr, owner of Rosvold Pharmacy, stands his ground among megachains and mail-order houses by making sure his customers come first.

It's no surprise to any American that health coverage and medical care have changed tremendously in the last two decades.  Tom Stehr, 46, who owns and operates Rosvold Pharmacy, Inc. on the corner of New Albany Road and Route 130, is a neighborhood anchor, who has stayed dedicated to his clients in an ever-changing economic and political climate. In 1995, Stehr bought the pharmacy from Robert Rosvold when Rosvold decided to retire. The Rosvold family had opened the store 50 years earlier.  After graduating from the University of the Sciences in West Philadelphia, Stehr worked for another family-owned pharmacy and for the now-defunct Thrift Drug chain for three years. He also is an adjunct professor for the University of the Sciences and …

Zio’s Tuscan Grille Opens—Let the Uncles Serve You

Two guys are rustling up fresh salads, succulent sandwiches and hearty pastas in a refurbished eatery on Route 130.

Ten women of mixed ages hired as waitstaff are getting a tutorial on the computerized cash register. Three muscular guys are shouldering cases of iced teas and sodas for stocking in the refrigerators. Cooks are hearing final changes to the menu.  Owners Angelo Duva and Roger Parrillo are hot on the heels of rolling out Cinnaminson’s newest restaurant, Zio’s Tuscan Grille, slated for an opening on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The guys are resolved to add to the niche of new eateries recently moving into the township. The Italian restaurant has settled into a space in the Pep Boys Plaza on Route 130 formerly housed by Palombo’s Italian Kitchen & Pizzeria. But, very little remains from the prior restaurant.  The modern interior has been revamped with a …

Neighbor Saves Man’s Life

Residents rally around a family in crisis and embody the true meaning of being neighborly.

On Wednesday, Sept. 14, Rich Rickus didn’t die.  But, he almost did.  After an evening spent at Cinnaminson’s Back to School Night, Patti Rickus returned to her home on Riverton Road, which sits across from Westfield Friends School.  It was close to 8:20 p.m., and Patti was greeted by her lively 7-year-old daughter, Cierra, who excitedly quizzed Patti about her new classroom and teacher. Over her daughter’s head, Patti saw her husband, Rich, 51, lying facedown on the floor of the family room, motionless and unresponsive.  “What is daddy doing?” Patti asked her daughter.  “Oh, he’s just resting there,”  Cierra told her mom. “He was wrestling with us on the floor.” Sensing a dire situation unfolding, Patti started calling her husband’s name…

New Dance Academy Twirls Into Town

Edge Dance Center fills an artistic niche in Cinnaminson.

Learning the art of dance will soon be a lot more convenient for Cinnaminson young people. On Oct. 17, Jacque Dickinson and Christine Levenson opened Edge Dance Center in the Cinnaminson Mainline Shopping Center with 40 members ready to riff. The owners each have decades of dance and teaching experience, and they are excited to get kicking in the township. Their teaching philosophy is centered on instilling a passion for dance while building confidence in every dancer. “We really want to provide one-on-one direction,” Dickinson said, “and give everyone our personal attention.”  Levenson said an extensive curriculum of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip hop will be offered at the new studio.  “We have a track record of serious dancers,” …

Guys Just Want to Be Guys—Paying to Play at the Racetrack

Cinnaminson man builds race cars and rents them at national racing events.

Ten years ago, Andrew Zimmerman drove in his first car racing event at Pocono Raceway. Soon after arriving at the track, the unabashed fan had engine problems, and the car quit. Zimmerman continued the race—in a rental car. Although he experienced a mishap, Zimmerman realized a possible business opportunity. A native of Cinnaminson, Zimmerman grew up far from the car racing tracks he visits 20 times a year. From his first time behind the wheel of a race car, Zimmerman was hooked. Shortly thereafter, he began competing in National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Spec E30 events on the East Coast. “For me, being at the race track is like an addiction,” Zimmerman, 38, acknowledges. “It’s a friendly cohesive environment.” Through racing events, …

A Local Advocacy Group Provides a Safe Haven for Abused Women

Providence House Domestic Violence Services of Catholic Charities hosts the Taste of Burlington County to spearhead its cause.

Rachel Johnston said her short time with Providence House has taught her what communities can do when they pool together to stop domestic violence. “The many services that are provided for disadvantaged women trying to get back on their feet would not be available if it wasn’t for the dedication of so many people and from the cooperation of the public,” said Johnston, community affairs coordinator, who joined Providence House in Delran seven months ago. Providence House Domestic Violence Services of Catholic Charities provides an emergency safe house at an undisclosed location for up to 27 women and their children fleeing from domestic abuse. “The women can stay for 30 days,” Johnston explained. “Many women show up with [just] the clothes …
